The largest fleet of hydrogen fuel cell buses (as well as the largest hydrogen fueling station for vehicles) is in service in Whistler, BC, in time for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The twenty transit buses, powered by Ballard's FCvelocity-HD6 power module, provide a 62% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to diesel buses. Click here to read more.

Hydrogen fuel cells provided clean, supplementary power to the floating Olympic Rings

The 30 ft. tall Olympic Rings, floating on a barge in Burrard Inlet, were given a power boost, thanks to the installation of an IdaTech ElectraGen™ H2 fuel cell system. The hydrogen-fuelled system, containing Ballard’s FCgen™ fuel cells, provided clean, power for LED-lights on the rings. Click here to read more.

Hi2 Campaign
Ballard is proud to be participating in the H2i campaign. Brought to you by the BC Hydrogen Highway project, H2i is a campaign that aims to showcase British Columbia's myriad assortment of unique, homegrown hydrogen and fuel cell applications.

H2i symbolizes an improvement in the way we use energy. That includes cleaner transit services, more secure ways to backup cell phone towers and computer data networks and new distributed power solutions. Hydrogen and fuel cells are even powering the Floating Olympic Rings.

Offsetters
Ballard Power Systems has partnered with Offsetters, the Official Supplier of Carbon Offsets for the 2010 Winter Games, as a provider of carbon credits for the 2010 Legacy Portfolio. Until December 2012 Offsetters is building the 2010 Legacy Portfolio, anchored by BC based clean technologies, to provide quality carbon offsets from renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
