The friction characteristics and durability of Ballard’s carbon fiber fabrics make them ideal for high-performance applications, including torque converters in light-duty automotive transmissions.



      
Carbon friction materials are also used in wet brake systems for off-road, heavy-duty construction and mining equipment.



Ballard’s AvCarb® spun staple carbon fabrics offer consistent friction over a wide range of speeds throughout the life of a vehicle, with conductivity that drives heat away from the friction surface. These fabrics offer superior durability, unparalleled uniformity and higher performance than conventional friction papers.

In addition, our fabrics have valuable uses in non-friction applications, such as carbon-carbon composites reinforcement, tooling, sporting goods and ablative insulation applications (solid fuel rocket motors).
