What is AFCC Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation Corp.?
AFCC Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation Corp. (AFCC) is a private Vancouver, Canada-based automotive fuel cell technology company founded in 2008 and owned 50.1% by Daimler AG, 30% by Ford Motor Company and 19.9% by Ballard Power Systems. AFCC was created to focus on fuel cell research, development and design specifically for automotive applications. To learn more about this company, click here.

I want to retrofit my car with a fuel cell engine. Where can I buy one and how much does it cost?
Ballard is contracted to provide automotive fuel cell contract technical and manufacturing services to AFCC. These automotive fuel cells are not available for sale to the public.

How much does a fuel cell vehicle cost today and what will it be in the future?
Today, fuel cell vehicles are in the demonstration stage with various automotive manufacturers and their fleet customers and are not available for consumer purchase.

We expect that for widespread consumer acceptance of fuel cell vehicles, they will have to be competitive in price with those of internal combustion engine vehicles. As premium products, fuel cell vehicles will offer the benefits of zero emission operation, unlimited onboard power, low noise and vibration, and greater design freedom.

When will I be able to test drive a fuel cell car or ride on a fuel cell bus? When will fuel cell cars and buses be widely available?
Ballard fuel cell products are powering vehicle demonstration programs around the world. Click here to learn more about these programs.

The California Fuel Cell Partnership, based in Sacramento, California, conducts ride and drives in fuel cell cars at times throughout the year. Visit their web site at www.cafcp.org.

Can I be part of Ballard's fuel cell vehicle demonstration programs?
Ballard is contracted to provide automotive fuel cell contract technical and manufacturing services to AFCC. Daimler AG and Ford Motor Company, as major shareholders in AFCC, in turn develop their own fuel cell vehicle demonstration programs. Ballard does not operate vehicle demonstration programs.

We recommend you contact the California Fuel Cell Partnership  or Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Canada  to determine the next opportunity to test-drive a fuel cell vehicle.

What are your plans for developing next generation fuel cell engines for heavy-duty transportation?
Ballard is developing our sixth generation fuel cell module for the bus market, incorporating our most advanced fuel cell technology to date. To learn more about the next generation HD6 heavy-duty fuel cell module, click here
