VANCOUVER, CANADA – Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ: BLDP; TSX: BLDP) last week hosted the Vice Governor of China’s Jiangsu Province, Mr. Chen Zhenning, and his delegation, at our corporate offices for a first-ever meeting between the parties. The meeting included a discussion on the commitment by Jiangsu Province to the adoption of new energy vehicles, including the opportunities offered by fuel cell electric vehicles in mass transportation and other motive applications.
During the meeting and facility tour, Mr. Chen Zhenning noted that, as an example of the commitment to clean energy technologies and manufacturing, solar panel production in Jiangsu Province currently represents approximately 60% of China’s total production and is an important part of the Province’s manufacturing base. The Vice Governor stressed that, going forward, a priority for Jiangsu Province will be increased investment in innovation and technology, including innovation that helps address climate change and reduce air pollution.

Jiangsu Province, with its capital city of Nanjing, is located in eastern China with more than 600 miles of coastline along the Yellow Sea. With a population of more than 78 million, it is the most densely populated of China’s Provinces and has the second-highest Gross Domestic Product, underpinned by manufacturing of electronics, chemicals and textiles.
